Results vs. Augustana
The Shippensburg University women's tennis team dropped a pair of 8-1 decisions on Monday in Florida, first facing Schreiner at the Lake Cane courts before going up against perennial Division II national qualifier Augustana (S.D.) at the USTA campus in Orlando.
Â
The opener against Schreiner was delayed by rain – the match began with singles and then moved on to doubles.
Â
Junior
Megan Moorhead was victorious in a highly competitive match at No. 6 singles. Moorhead rallied after dropping the first set, 2-6, to take the second set, 6-2, and then win 10-6 in the tiebreaker. It is Moorhead's first collegiate singles victory of her career.
Â
The final singles match to conclude was the No. 3 flight, in which junior
Kaylin Gallagher won nine games but came up just short in a 5-7, 4-6 loss to Kali Kyo. Sophomore
Catherine Miller won five games in her No. 2 singles match.
Â
In doubles, sophomore
Daisy Rundio and junior
Gabbie Binder teamed up to win three games in the No. 2 flight. Moorhead and junior
Victoria Galanti won a game at No. 3 doubles.
Â
Against Augustana, Rundio and Gallagher won a pair of games at No. 2 doubles and each won a game in their singles matches. SU claimed the No. 6 singles match by default.
Â
"In both matches, they made their opponents work for the win," head coach
Lindsey Tennis said of the Raiders. "We are looking stronger and stronger each day."
Â
Shippensburg will face league rival Bloomsburg in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. Tuesday from the USTA campus.
