HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – The Shippensburg University baseball team dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader to Seton Hill by identical 2-0 scores in a pair of pitcher's duels on another bright and sunny day from Ting Park.
Â
Shippensburg (2-4) got quality starts on the day from senior
Andy Crum and sophomore
Zack Sims, but could not find an answer for the Seton Hill (2-0) pitching staff. For the second straight day, the Raiders faced a team making their season debut and throwing their ace.
Â
The Raiders were held to two hits in Game 1, both off the bat of senior
Grant Hoover, but managed to out-hit the Griffins in Game 2, 5-4.
Â
Game 1
Â
Crum threw six quality innings in his second start of the season, scattering six hits while striking out four. Seton Hill scored one run in the third inning and another in the fourth to secure the win. Sophomore
Kyle Lysy pitched one scoreless inning in relief for the Raiders.
Â
Game 2
Â
Pitching was the story again in the second game of the twinbill, with Sims pitching 5.2 innings, surrendering just two runs on four hits while striking out eight. Junior
Michael Hope came on to record one out in the bottom of the six to keep the score at 2-0 heading into the seventh.
Â
The Raiders finished with five hits in the game, with senior
Nick Spangler doubling twice in the loss. Hoover and juniors
Drew Bene and
Ty Painter also recorded a knock in the game.
Â
Shippensburg will wrap up its southern trip Sunday at 10 a.m. against Slippery Rock from Ting Park.
