Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fifth in 2017 Paul Short Inv. “Brown” Race

Dissinger and Kinkead pace the Raiders in key mid-season meet

The Shippensburg University women's cross country team competed in the Brown Race at the 2017 Paul Short Invitational on Friday afternoon, finishing fifth out of 20 non-Division I teams in competition on a pleasant afternoon at Lehigh University.

It was an important mid-season meet, as the Raiders position their schedule to run hard at Paul Short with the conference championships just three weeks away. Edinboro won Friday's Brown race (non-Division I) with 81 points, while SU finished second among the six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools. Kutztown was two places and 34 points behind Shippensburg.

Senior Bryanna Dissinger and junior Jackie Kinkead each posted a time of 22:23 as the fastest Raiders on the afternoon. Dissinger was credited with 20th place, while Kinkead was slotted in 21st place. Kinkead matched her time from last year's Paul Short Invitational Brown race.

Freshman Natalee Serwatka was SU's No. 3 runner, placing 33rd in 22:43 to mark her second straight race as a Raider scorer. Serwatka improved upon her debut 6K last weekend by nearly two full minutes.

Sophomore Lydia Cagle stepped up as the No. 4 Raider runner on the afternoon, finishing just three seconds behind Serwatka. Her 37th-place finish in 22:46 marks the first time in her SU career that she has finished as one of the team's scoring runner. Cagle improved her time from last year's Paul Short Invitational Open race by 51 seconds to establish a new 6K collegiate PR.

Senior Lizzie Manickas rounded out the Raider scorers, placing 53rd with a time of 23:05. A total of nine women represented the Raiders in the Brown race. Junior Sandra Kimborowicz led a group of four Raiders who competed in the morning's Open invitational run.

Shippensburg heads to Pittsburgh next weekend to compete in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
