SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team capped off its opening weekend of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play in style Saturday, posting a sweep of visiting Mercyhurst from Heiges Field House by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19.

Shippensburg (9-5, 2-0 PSAC) had its second-most efficient match of the season on attack, posting a .357 hitting efficiency with just nine attack errors on 112 total swings. Freshman
Emily Hangen had assists on 44 of SU's 49 kills.

Junior
Morgan DeFloria led the Raiders with 15 kills and had just one attack error, hitting a season-best .452 from the floor. She also had seven digs.

Sophomore
Kendall Johnson slammed 13 kills without an error to the tune of an incredible .591 hitting percentage. It is the second-most efficient performance of her young career in a match that she has had at least 10 kills (.600 vs. UPJ last season).

Fellow sophomore
Samantha Webber was efficient once again with 12 kills and just two errors, swinging .417. Sophomore
Megan Forstburg led the defense with 16 digs and served two of SU's three aces on the day.

Mercyhurst (5-8, 0-2) was led by Katie Baird, who posted 12 kills and a match-high four aces. The Lakers posted a .207 hitting percentage.

One night after SU and Gannon combined for 27 blocks, the two teams combined for just five blocks on Saturday.

Gabriella Johnson each had two block assists for the Raiders.
Shippensburg hits the road next weekend, traveling to Edinboro for a Friday night match (7 p.m.) and to Slippery Rock for a Saturday afternoon match (1 p.m.).Â
