Volleyball Splits On Saturday, Securing Win No. 300 For Coach Piscotty

SU falls to Flagler before sweeping Purdue Northwest for milestone win

The Shippensburg University volleyball team split its Saturday matches at the 2017 Flagler Saints Invitational, securing the 300th career victory for head coach Leanne Piscotty at the end of the season-opening weekend for the Raiders.

Shippensburg (1-3) began the day with a loss to the hosts by set scores of 17-25, 16-25 and 16-25. Later in the afternoon, the Raiders avenged a Friday loss to Purdue Northwest by sweeping the Pride by scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-17.

Piscotty, the all-time Shippensburg University Volleyball coaching wins leader, has posted a 300-188 record during her tenure. She is in her 14th season directing the Raiders.

SU's front row had a strong afternoon. Sophomore Samantha Webber was incredibly efficient, ripping 12 kills on just two errors over the two games with a .417 hitting percentage. Sophomore Gabriella Johnson had 16 kills and hit .289, while sophomore Kendall Johnson had 16 kills and hit .286.

Junior Morgan DeFloria had 14 kills but also impressed with her services, totaling six aces. Gabriella Johnson had four aces, while sophomore Megan Forstburg contributed three. Forstburg led the Raiders from the back row with 21 digs on Saturday. Freshman Emily Hangen had 50 assists and four blocks.

Shippensburg heads back on the road next weekend to the PSAC/Mountain East Crossover hosted by West Virginia State and Charleston.
