SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team used goals from three different players Thursday night to record its first win of the season in shutout fashion over Goldey-Beacom, 3-0, from David See Field.
Shippensburg (1-0) scored two goals in the first half to take a two-goal advantage into halftime over Goldey-Beacom (0-1). The Raiders would add a goal midway through the second half to seal the win.
Senior
Jan Striewe opened the season scoring with his first goal of the year in the 14th minute. Striewe delivered a header to the back of the net off a perfect feed off a corner taken by junior
Jake Shefsky.
In the 30th minute, the Lightning were assessed a penalty after a hand ball foul in the box. Junior
Patrick Luebben converted the penalty for his first goal of 2017.
Junior
Cole Kropnick had the third and final Raider goal in the 60th minute on a headed pass from redshirt-freshman
Erik Espinoza. The assist marked Espinoza's first collegiate point.
Junior
Matt Harder was stellar in net for the Raiders and recorded his third career shutout in the win. Harder made five saves in the game, none better than his penalty kick denial on Goldey-Beacom's Artur Zvinchuk in the 78th minute to keep the shutout intact.
Shippensburg will return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when it hosts Concord at David See Field.
