BRADENTON, Fla. – Junior
Bryan Pearson achieved All-America Second Team honors in the discus as the lone member of the Shippensburg University men's track & field team to compete Friday at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Pearson finished 10th, missing the finals by just one inch (four centimeters). His top throw of 171 feet, 1 inch (52.14 meters) came on his first attempt. He fouled his second attempt and had a third throw of 159 feet, 1 inch (48.48 meters).
Friday marked the second straight NCAA Championships appearance in the discus for Pearson, who earned 2016 All-America First Team honors with a sixth-place finish on a top mark of 173 feet, 7 inches (52.92 meters). He remains the all-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record holder on his PR achieved in the 2016 regular season (181 feet, 10 inches; 55.42 meters).
On Saturday, Shippensburg will have a bevy of activity on the final day of the championships, with 11 athletes (five men, six women) in competition. It all begins with the women's javelin at 11:30 a.m. Pearson will be among those in action, competing in the shot put.
