Sarah Hunt’s Record Long Jump Highlights Women’s Indoor T&F at Susquehanna

Senior crushes her school record with 20-foot jump and also PRs in 60 meters

(story is still awaiting results of shot put, which was in progress at time of release)

Senior Sarah Hunt put forth a historic performance in the long jump Friday night, crushing her own school record in the event with a 20-foot mark, to highlight the night for the Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field team at the Susquehanna University Challenge.

It was the most noteworthy of what proved to be a very strong night for the SU women's team despite limited action, as the Raiders compiled numerous season bests and improvements to their standing on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) performance list.

Hunt's Record Long Jump, and a 60-Meter PR
Hunt, on her second jump attempt, posted a mark of 20 feet, 0 ½ inches (6.11 meters) that satisfied the extremely difficult NCAA automatic qualifying standard, putting her No. 1 on the NCAA Division II performance list and guaranteeing her a trip to the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships.

The accomplishment was perhaps slightly foreshadowed, as in her first attempt Friday night, Hunt matched her previous indoor personal best and school record on an impressive mark of 19 feet, 6 ¾ inches (5.96 meters). Her third jump was also strong at 19 feet, 3 ¼ inches, before she passed on her finals jumps to focus on the 60-meter dash finals.

One personal best wasn't enough for Hunt on the night, as she then won the 60-meter dash finals on a PR run of 7.80 seconds that is just .03 seconds shy of Lauren Ellsworth's 2013 school record.

Sciremammano Also PR's in Long Jump
Junior Danielle Sciremammano put forth the best indoor long jump of her career on Friday night, posting a NCAA-provisional qualifier on a second-place mark of 18 feet, 7 inches. It is a new personal best of more than three inches for Sciremammano, who climbed from seventh to third on the PSAC performance list with her effort.

Also on Friday night, Sciremammano ran in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.02 seconds.

Kelly Flies in 400
Freshman Cirsten Kelly broke 60 seconds in the 400 meters for the first time in college and became SU's pacesetter in the event with a first-place time of 59.39 seconds. Kelly's time, upon conversion, will slot her second on the PSAC performance list for the event.

Farrell Improves in the Mile
Senior Abbey Farrell notched a personal best in the mile Friday night, placing second in 5:19.51. The time is an improvement of more than one full second from her previous indoor PR set last year at Bucknell. Upon conversion, the time will move Farrell from 18th to 13th on the PSAC performance list.

Pasteka PR's in High Jump
Sophomore Madelyne Pasteka notched a new personal best in the high jump for the second time this season, getting over the bar Friday night at 5 feet, 1 ¾ inches for a fourth-place finish. Pasteka enhanced her previous best of 5 feet, 1 inch she achieved two weeks ago at Bucknell.

Shirk Wins Weight Throw
Sophomore Paige Shirk led a group of four Raiders among the Top 6 finishers in the weight throw, winning Friday's competition on a mark of 51 feet, 6 ½ inches.

Sitch Enhances Long Jump PR
Junior Alyssa Sitch enhanced her PR in the long jump by a centimeter, placing fifth on a mark of 16 feet, 10 ¾ inches. Sitch also recorded a triple jump on the night of 33 feet, 11 ¼ inches.

Up Next
Shippensburg will have a split squad next weekend competing in Boston at the Hemery Valentine Invitational and also at Bucknell.
