SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Millersville on Tuesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division matchup from Heiges Field House, but secured a berth in the conference tournament despite the loss. Set scores were 25-16, 19-25, 20-25, 20-25.
Shippensburg (19-10, 11-5 PSAC) put forth a convincing performance in the first set, ultimately pulling away with a four-point service run led by sophomore
Megan Forstburg. With the score tied 11-10, SU scored 14 of the remaining 20 points in the frame.
Millersville (17-9, 8-8) made its adjustments and improved its efficiency, swinging .193 over the final three frames after a .105 rate in the opening set. The Marauders also limited Shippensburg to just a .103 hitting efficiency, as the Raiders recorded 24 attack errors over the final three sets.
SU got a match-high 16 kills from sophomore
Samantha Webber to complement 11 kills on just two errors by junior
Morgan DeFloria, who hit .220. DeFloria's 11 kills and 17 digs mark her fourth double-double in the last five matches and her 14th overall this season.
Redshirt-junior
Courtney Malott contributed 37 assists, 20 digs and two aces. The Raiders served nine aces on the night, including three by Forstburg and two by sophomore
Gabriella Johnson. Forstburg led the Raiders with 24 digs, while Johnson had 22 digs along with five kills.
A pair of freshmen earned starts Tuesday night.
Gianna Sigado had six kills and 13 digs, while
Alana Pergine delivered four kills without an error and recorded two block assists.
Shippensburg will be on the road this weekend for its final matches of the regular season, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday in Lock Haven.
