Volleyball Snaps Four-Match Skid, Defeating Lock Haven On the Road In Five

SU records its most kills in a match since late in the 2014 season

The Shippensburg University volleyball team was credited with its most kills in a match in three seasons on Friday night, snapping a four-match losing skid by winning a five-set thriller at Lock Haven, defeating the Bald Eagles by scores of 14-25, 25-19, 25-17, 29-31 and 15-8 from Thomas Fieldhouse.

Shippensburg (20-10, 12-5 PSAC) totaled 70 kills on the evening, its most since recording 73 in a victory over Winston-Salem State back on Nov. 8, 2014. The Raiders were credited with 30 more kills than their opponents, swinging .202 from the floor.

SU received superlative efforts from sophomore Samantha Webber and junior Morgan DeFloria. Webber slammed a career-high 22 kills on 44 attempts, committing just four errors to the tune of a .409 hitting percentage. She also had two blocks.

DeFloria notched a season-high 21 kills, swinging .167, to complement 14 digs for another double-double. It's the third time in DeFloria's career she has had 20 or more kills in a match. She also contributed to three blocks.

Sophomore Kendall Johnson had 10 kills and hit .308. Fellow sophomore Gabriella Johnson had 10 kills and 21 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

Freshman setter Emily Hangen returned to the lineup and made a huge impact, recording a career-high 57 assists for the third 50-assist match of her career. Hangen also had 10 digs and notched three kills.

Sophomore Megan Forstburg also ended up with a new career high, leading all players with 34 digs. Both Forstburg and freshman Maegan McDonald served two of SU's six aces. Junior Bridget Terrel notched a career-high 12 digs on the night as well.

Shippensburg travels to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Mountain Cats to conclude the regular season.

If the Raiders defeat the Mountain Cats tomorrow in three or four sets, the Raiders would earn the No. 4 seed in the conference and host a PSAC Quarterfinal on Tuesday evening.

If the Raiders defeat the Mountain Cats tomorrow in five sets, the Raiders would fall below the No. 4 seed by virtue of the third conference tiebreaker, sets won in PSAC play (43-42, UPJ).

If the Raiders lose to the Mountain Cats tomorrow, the Raiders would earn either the No. 5 seed and travel right back to Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday, or potentially fall to the No. 6 seed and travel to the No. 3 seed on Tuesday.
