Football Earns 10 All-PSAC Selections; Eubanks, Maciejewski Earn Major Awards

Eubanks named Freshman of the Year; Maciejewski named Coach of the Year

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Winston Eubanks was named the Eastern Division Freshman of the Year and Mark Maciejewski was named Eastern Division Coach of the Year to highlight a group of 10 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) players for the Shippensburg University football team announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

Voting is conducted by the league's head coaches. Head coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Eubanks, a wide receiver, is among a group of seven Red Raiders named to the All-PSAC East First Team along with senior quarterback Ryan Zapoticky, senior defensive back Kevin Taylor II, junior safety Richard Sheler, junior linebacker Tyler Emge, and junior defensive ends Richard Nase and Dakota Thompson.

SU had three All-PSAC Second Team honorees: senior running back Cole Chiappialle, junior center Alec Petrillo and sophomore guard Zach Warren.

Shippensburg was one of three Eastern Division schools with 10 or more All-PSAC selections. Its seven First Team awards led the division. West Chester paced the East with 13 total selections, while Kutztown had 11 honorees. West Chester's Jarel Elder was named the Offensive Player of the Year, and West Chester's Tyler Morrissey was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Maciejewski earns his second PSAC Eastern Division Coach of the Year, accompanying his previous honor in 2012. In 2017, Maciejewski has led the Red Raiders to their fifth 10-win season in school history and first NCAA playoff berth in five years. Shippensburg leads the PSAC in scoring defense and total defense, and ranks among the Top 10 teams nationally in nine defensive categories.

Eubanks is the first Red Raider named the PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Year since Chavez Cheatham in 2013. His All-PSAC First Team selection and award is the result of 43 receptions for 1,160 yards and 12 touchdowns. His receiving yards rank third in the PSAC while his 12 touchdowns rank second. He ranks second in Division II in averaging 26.98 yards per reception. Nationally, Eubanks is 11th in receiving yards and 14th in receiving touchdowns.

Zapoticky earns his first All-PSAC honor. He ranks fourth in the PSAC in passing yards (2,790) and passing touchdowns (25). Both totals rank among the Top 20 nationally. The senior has also completed passes at a 61.5-percent clip, good for third in the conference. Zapoticky has compiled 318 yards on the ground and has recorded six rushing touchdowns.

Taylor earns his second consecutive All-PSAC First Team honor at defensive back. He leads the secondary with five interceptions, which ranks fifth in the PSAC, and includes a 41-yard return for a touchdown at Cheyney. Taylor has totaled 11 passes defensed, including six pass breakups, to go along with 33 tackles.

Sheler earns his first All-PSAC honor with a breakout campaign for the Red Raiders in which he has become a full-time starter. Despite missing the first game of the season to injury, Sheler has totaled 48 tackles, fifth on the team, including 2.5 tackles for loss (TFLs). Two of his three interceptions came in a pivotal road win at Kutztown. He has 11 passes defensed, including eight pass breakups.

Emge, a team captain as a junior, ranks fourth on the team with 53 tackles. That total includes 12.5 TFLs and one sack on the year. The linebacker has also forced two turnovers on the year – a forced fumble against East Stroudsburg and a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown at Gannon. It is Emge's first career All-PSAC honor.

Nase, meanwhile, becomes a three-time All-PSAC defensive end (2015 First Team, 2016 Second Team). He has proven to be an anchor for the defensive unit up front, tallying 35 tackles, 10 TFLs and 5.5 sacks. He ranks among the Top 10 in the conference in sacks despite playing in nine games.

Thompson continues to impress as a defensive end and his performance in 2017 marks his first All-PSAC honor. He has 42 tackles on the year, 11 TFLs and a team-high six sacks – a total that ranks ninth in the PSAC. He was also named a PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week this season after an impressive performance over Lock Haven.

Chiappialle earns his second straight All-PSAC East Second Team honor at running back. He has rushed for 688 yards and nine touchdowns while hauling in 26 receptions for 186 yards. He ranks ninth in the PSAC in rushing despite missing two full games due to injury. Chiappialle ranks fourth in the PSAC in rushing touchdowns and has averaged more than 75 yards per game on the ground this season.

Petrillo, SU's starting center, and Warren, SU's starting right guard, each receive their first All-PSAC honor. They have been durable linemen on a unit that ranks third in the PSAC in total points, third in rushing yards per game and fifth in passing yards. The Red Raiders have eclipsed the 30-point mark nine times this season.
