No. 25 Football Improves to 10-1, Notching 51-13 Home Victory Over Seton Hill

Red Raiders reach 10 wins for fifth time in history; 12 seniors honored

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 25-ranked Shippensburg University football team scored points on eight of its 10 drives Saturday in its regular-season finale, as the Red Raiders celebrated Senior Day with a 51-13 victory over Seton Hill on a chilly, sunny afternoon at SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium.

Shippensburg (10-1) achieved its fifth 10-win season in school history, as this year's squad accompanies those from 1981 (12-1), 1991 (10-3), 2004 (10-2) and 2012 (11-2). The Red Raiders will be keeping their eye on Sunday's NCAA Selection show with the hopes of making their sixth NCAA Tournament in school history.

SU established a 44-0 lead into the final eight minutes of Saturday's game and limited visiting Seton Hill (0-11) to just 117 yards until its final two drives. The Red Raiders completed the regular season out-scoring opponents 149-19 in the first quarter and 261-56 in the first half.

Offensively, Shippensburg surpassed 500 yards for the third time this season – finishing with 582 yards from scrimmage (326 rushing, 256 passing). SU had 11 rushes of 10 or more yards, converted 7-of-9 third downs, and had nearly half of its plays result in first downs (32-of-70).

Senior quarterback Ryan Zapoticky had five total touchdowns on the day, completing 19-of-26 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns while running seven times for 16 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Chase Yocum spelled Zapoticky down the stretch, running five times for 52 yards and a score, while senior fullback Mike Cassidy scored his first collegiate touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Kyle Haines was SU's leading receiver with seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore fullback Luke Durkin and redshirt-freshman wide receiver Charles Headen III also caught touchdowns.

Shppensburg's senior running backs combined for 231 rushing yards on 28 carries, an average of 8.3 yards per carry. Colin McDermott had 14 carries for 122 yards, while Cole Chiappialle had 14 carries for 109 yards.

Sophomore Tig Spinelli had a career-high four tackles-for-loss (TFLs). Senior Chavez Cheatham intercepted a pass – the eighth of his career – and returned 36 yards. Junior J.T. Hopple and sophomore Eric Dzieniszewski led SU with seven tackles each. Junior Josh Lister notched his first collegiate sack.

SU's senior class: Christian Brown, Cassidy, Cheatham, Chiappialle, Billy Deane, Andrew Englebert, Oscar Ghasab, McDermott, Austin Rosenberry, Kevin Taylor II, Darius Wills and Zapoticky, have each made contributions to a Red Raider squad that has gone 38-17 since their recruitment (start of 2013 season).

The NCAA Division II Selection Show is scheduled to air at 5 p.m. Sunday, and be accessed from NCAA.com.
