The Shippensburg University men's soccer team dropped a spirited league clash at No. 12 West Chester on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to the Golden Rams in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Rockwell Field.
Shippensburg (6-7-2, 4-5 PSAC) challenged West Chester (11-2-1, 9-0) throughout, yielding a late goal in the 81st minute that proved to be the difference. Shots on goal finished 5-1 in the Golden Rams' favor.
Sophomore
Colin Marks nearly got the Raiders on the board in the 19th minute off a corner kick, but WCU goalkeeper Matt Palmer made a diving save.
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Garret Watson was credited with four saves in the contest. Watson has allowed just three goals in his five conference starts, recording 22 saves.
Wednesday marked the third league match in six days for the Raiders, including the second straight road contest against a nationally-ranked opponent.
SU is currently the first team outside the PSAC playoff picture, holding 12 conference points with two league matches remaining. Seton Hill currently has the sixth and final playoff spot with 15 points, and holds a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Raiders. The Griffins play East Stroudsburg and West Chester in their final two matches.
Shippensburg hosts Mercyhurst at 4:30 p.m. Saturday from David See Field.
