SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend Saturday by winning a pair of home matches at Raider Classic #2, defeating Virginia State in straight sets before up-ending Shepherd in four sets from a muggy Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (7-1) defeated Virginia State (4-4) by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-15, then dispatched Shepherd by scores of 25-20, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-19. Six of SU's seven victories this season have come in straight sets thus far.

Freshman
Samantha Webber continued her outstanding play by hitting .368 on the day, clubbing 28 kills to complement five blocks. She had 12 kills against Virginia State before adding 16 against the Rams. For the weekend, Webber finished with 49 kills in four matches, averaging 3.77 kills per set, while hitting .444. She also had 14 blocks on the weekend.

Senior
Maura Nolan racked up 83 assists, handing out passes to nine different Raiders for kills on the day. She also had six kills, 10 digs and three blocks.

Versatile senior
Maria Peluso totaled seven service aces on the day, ripped 13 kills, and totaled 25 digs. Senior
Annie Goerl led the Raiders on the day with 32 digs and added 11 kills of her own.

Freshman
Kendall Johnson maintained her accurate hitting by swinging .308 on the day, totaling 14 kills on 26 attempts. Sophomore
Morgan DeFloria notched 18 kills, had 31 digs, and three blocks for another sturdy day of work.

Shippensburg travels next weekend for its first road trip of the year. SU will alternate between Notre Dame (Ohio) and Ursuline for a tournament, playing its first match at noon Friday versus Charleston.Â
