Lacrosse Battles Back and Forth With Gannon but Falls to Golden Knights, 16-13

SU gets career-high four goals from Joseph; Harclerode nets first hat trick

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team battled back and forth with Gannon on a windy and sunny Friday, but the visiting Golden Knights scored four of the final five tallies to prevail over the Raiders, 16-13, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (3-6, 0-5 PSAC) and Gannon (5-5, 2-3) combined for 26 goals in the first 40 minutes of Friday's game, but only three goals were scored in the contest's final third. The score was tied 12-12 with 23:12 left in regulation, but the Golden Knights held the Raiders to just one tally the rest of the way.

SU led 6-3 with 13 minutes left in the first half, but Gannon responded with five straight goals to take the lead. The Golden Knights led 10-8 at halftime, but the Raiders responded with four of the first six goals in the second half to create the 12-12 tie that set up the game's final stretch.

Shippensburg's 13 goals are its most in a PSAC match this season, and the total ties for the second-most goals scored by the Raiders this season.

Senior Tanisha Joseph scored a career-high four goals to lead the Raiders. She also had two caused turnovers and two groundballs. Joseph, who entered this season with seven career goals, now has nine goals for the 2016 campaign.

Junior Ali Harclerode recorded a hat trick for the first time in her career, adding three groundballs, two draw controls, an assist and a caused turnover. Fellow junior Max Barkley had two goals and a season-high seven draw controls while tying her career high with five groundballs.

Four different Raiders also scored on the day: juniors Amanda Frank and T.J. Johnson and freshmen Kelley Dietz and Madi Newman. Frank assisted on three goals and had two caused turnovers, while Newman had two assists and five draw controls.

Defensively, sophomore Makenzie Magnotta had four caused turnovers and four groundballs while sophomore Julia Wise had a career-high six groundballs. Junior Annemarie Cericola had three groundballs, while freshman Valerie Hertz had two groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Senior Ally Frymoyer had seven first-half saves and made eight in the contest. Gannon's Kat Martinelli made 11 saves in the second half, as the Raiders out-shot the Golden Knights 24-10 in the final 30 minutes.

Shippensburg will hold its annual "Stick it to Cancer" game at 3 p.m. on Saturday versus No. 7 Mercyhurst at Robb Sports Complex.

A limited number of SU's "Stick it to Cancer" t-shirts will be available for sale. Donations are encouraged and will be collected, with the proceeds being split 50-50 between Susan G. Komen and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC).
