Lacrosse Rallies to Notch a 13-11 Road Win at Catawba

Frank scores five goals, Fugate notches hat trick in the victory

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team notched its second win of the season on Monday afternoon by rallying from a halftime deficit to record a 13-11 victory over Catawba in a non-conference matchup in Salisbury, N.C.

Shippensburg (2-1) trailed 6-5 at halftime to Catawba (2-2), but scored three of the first four goals in the second half to take an 8-7 lead. SU would not trail the rest of the way, but the Raiders never held a lead of more than two goals in the contest.

Junior Amanda Frank led the Raiders with five goals on the day, while recording four groundballs, two draw controls and an assist. SU lost draw controls on Monday by a decisive 22-4 margin, as junior Max Barkley was unavailable due to injury, but the Raiders overcame that with a +11 turnover margin.

Sophomore Allison Fugate had a hat trick and one assist. Freshman Madi Newman had another fine all-around game with team highs of five groundballs and three caused turnovers to go along with two goals (both on free positions) and one draw control.

Other goal scorers included junior T.J. Johnson and freshman Morgan Stone. Junior Ali Harclerode had a goal, two assists, and a draw control.

Sophomore Julia Wise and freshman Valerie Hertz each had multiple caused turnovers on defense. Wise and Frank each had four groundballs.

Senior goalkeeper Ally Frymoyer made seven saves in the win.

Shippensburg is scheduled to host its home opener at noon Saturday against West Virginia Wesleyan from Robb Sports Complex.
