The Shippensburg University lacrosse team dropped a tough road match Saturday to Lenoir-Rhyne, 12-4, in a nonconference tilt at Moretz Stadium in Hickory, N.C.
Shippensburg (1-1) trailed 3-2 with just under 20 minutes to go in the first half when Lenoir-Rhyne was able to take control by scoring six consecutive goals. The Bears are currently receiving votes in the IWLCA national poll.
The Raiders' first half tallies were scored by junior
T.J. Johnson – her first goal of the season – and sophomore
Jordan Kengor. Kengor then added another goal on the afternoon in the second half, tying her for the team lead this season with four.
Scoring SU's final goal was junior
Ali Harclerode, who now has scored in each of SU's first two games.
The Raiders, which were outshot by just a 33-30 count, were led in shots by junior
Amanda Frank, who took six tries at the net. Kengor, Johnson, sophomore
Julia Wise and junior
Max Barkley all tied for a team-high with two caused turnovers.
Freshman
Valerie Hertz led SU with five groundballs while junior
Annemarie Cericola had four. Senior goalkeeper
Ally Frymoyer made 11 saves.
Shippensburg will stay in the state of North Carolina as it will travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba Monday at 4 p.m.
