Volleyball Clinches Playoff Spot With Road Sweep at Millersville, 3-0

SU reaches the PSAC Tournament for the 10th consecutive season

The Shippensburg University volleyball team had its fourth-best hitting night of the season on Tuesday, swinging .278, and added seven aces in a sweep at Millersville by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21 from Pucillo Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (25-5, 12-4 PSAC) clinched a spot in next week's PSAC Tournament by virtue of its victory and the results of other matches held Tuesday night. The Raiders can finish with no worse than the seventh-best record in the division, and only the Southeast Division will have an automatic conference qualifier with a lower record than the remainder of the qualifiers.

Senior Maura Nolan, named the PSAC Central Division Player of the Week earlier in the day, totaled 42 assists and nine digs to help guide the offense. Senior Annie Goerl led the Raiders with 14 kills, adding nine digs and hitting .257, while freshman Samantha Webber had eight kills and hit .375.

Freshman Gabriella Johnson had one of her best nights of the year with 11 kills – her third-most in a match this season – and swung an impressive .400 on 20 attempts. Johnson had nine digs, three block assists and three aces in an impressive performance.

Senior Rebecca Pryor came off the bench again and produced for the second consecutive match. Pryor had four kills and a team-high four blocks, swinging .222 on nine attempts. Sophomore Morgan DeFloria had five kills, five digs and hit .235.

Defensively, senior Maria Peluso led Shippensburg with 12 digs.

Shippensburg enters the weekend just one game behind Central Division leader Pitt-Johnstown after the Lady Cats lost to Lock Haven on Tuesday night, 3-1. SU will have a re-match at Lock Haven on Friday night before traveling to Johnstown on Saturday to potentially decide the division title.
