The Shippensburg University wrestling team traveled to York on Saturday for three matches, with the Raiders finishing the day 2-1. SU lost to the host Spartans surrounding wins over TCNJ and Camden (N.J.) County College.
 
Shippensburg began with a 28-19 victory over TCNJ before battling the host Spartans, who are ranked No. 18 in the NCAA Division III coaches poll. The difference was one major decision in favor of the hosts, as the teams traded decisions in nine other weight classes. York won 16-15. SU then beat Camden 45-3.
 
Four Raiders were undefeated on the day. At 197 pounds, junior Evan Ramos scored a 10-0 major decision over TCNJ's Alex Mirabella, a 10-4 decision over York's John Shorter, and a 7-5 win over Camden's Dymere Rappa.
 
At 184 pounds, junior Hunter Fenk scored an 11-0 major decision over TCNJ's Marcus Sherrod, a 6-5 decision over York's Jesse Huber, and a 5-4 decision over Camden's Daishi Goto.
 
Both junior Mike Springer and sophomore Adam Martz went 3-0 but had to do so over two different weight classes.
 
Springer pinned TCNJ's William Reardon in 3:35 at 149 pounds before wrestling up against York and scoring a 4-2 decision at 157 pounds over Chad Wickard. He then ended his day with a 46-second pin of Camden's Anthony Pencook.
 
Martz began with a 10-3 decision over TCNJ's Daniel Hedden at 157 pounds. He also wrestled up against York, scoring a 4-2 decision over Hunter Gimbor at 165 pounds. Against Camden, Martz went up one class again and notched a 2-1 decision at 165 pounds over Clifford Owens.
 
Sophomore Dustin Steffenino scored two pins on the day at 125 pounds. Freshman Derek Berberick scored a key pin against TCNJ, as the match was just a three-point affair, 22-19, before he recorded a victory by fall just 31 seconds before the regulation horn.
 
Shippensburg returns to action in two weeks when it hosts Mercyhurst and Gannon on Saturday, December 3 for a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meets.
