Volleyball Nets Another Win, Posting Road Sweep at Kutztown

SU wins all three sets 25-21; Raiders total season-high 14 team blocks

The Shippensburg University volleyball team went on the road Friday night and posted a straight-set sweep at Kutztown, with all three set scores finishing at 25-21 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Keystone Hall.

Shippensburg (14-3, 3-2 PSAC) hit .325 in the first set, holding leads of 8-3 and 15-7. The Raiders then exploded for an 18-3 lead in the second set before rotating in a variety of players to conclude the set. SU had leads of 5-0, 11-3 and 19-11 in the third set.

The Raiders posted an impressive season-high 14 team blocks, the most in a match since the fourth contest of last season against Concord (Sept. 11, 2015).

Senior Maura Nolan helped distribute the offense to a variety of targets, as nine different Raiders recorded a kill on the night. Nolan had 31 assists, 14 digs and four block assists, all team game-highs, and also had an ace and a solo block. With her Friday results, Nolan now has 4,419 career assists – 56 shy of tying Maureen DuVall's school record.

Sophomore Morgan DeFloria led the Raiders with 10 kills on Friday, hitting .226. DeFloria had four digs, two block solos and a block assist. Freshman Kendall Johnson had eight kills, three block solos and two block assists.

Freshman Samantha Webber had six kills, three blocks and hit .286, while freshman Gabriella Johnson had five kills, 10 digs and hit .333.

Senior Annie Goerl had six kills without an error, hitting .353, and added 11 digs. Goerl continues to climb the SU kills record books, as she is aiming to become the seventh player in school history to reach 1,000 or more overall.

Senior Maria Peluso had 13 digs and two aces, while freshman Megan Forstburg had eight digs.

Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday with a PSAC match at East Stroudsburg.
