SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team rallied late, scoring a go-ahead goal with 3:44 remaining on Tuesday to defeat Chowan, 3-1, in its final home game of 2016 from David See Field.
Shippensburg (6-11) snapped a nine-game losing skid with the victory and obtained its third win at home on the year. The Raiders grabbed the lead in the 19th minute on a goal from sophomore
Patrick Luebben – a nice finish left post off assists from senior
Colten Arnold and sophomore
Jake Shefsky.
Chowan (7-6-2) would fire four shots on goal in the first half, all of which were saved by senior
Evan Raimist. The Raiders led 1-0 at the half, but the Hawks found the equalizer in the 76th minute on the ninth goal on the year from Terell Williamson.
The Raiders would respond in an emphatic way while playing with a man down in the 86th minute. Luebben would use a great individual effort to create space and deliver a sensational cross into the box, where sophomore
Cole Kropnick finished it off to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage with just over three minutes left in regulation.
It was the second goal of the year for Kropnick and his first career game-winner. Chowan would record an own goal in the 88th minute to give the Raiders a 3-1 victory.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Garret Watson, who relieved Raimist at halftime, registered six saves in the second half to record his sixth win of the season.
Shippensburg will wrap up its season on the road at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bloomsburg.
