SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Three different players scored Thursday as the Shippensburg University men's soccer team beat Felician, 3-0, in the 2015 season opener on a warm afternoon at David See Field.
Â
Despite a flurry of shots early, Shippensburg (1-0) did not break through until the 42nd minute when junior
Robert Furfaro was brought down in the box. Senior
Derek Adams converted the ensuing penalty kick to put the Raiders up 1-0.
Â
Less than three minutes later, Furfaro was again fouled in the box, and Adams took aim at another PK goal. However, this time Adams' shot was blocked, but Furfaro knocked home the rebound for his first tally of the season to extend SU's lead to 2-0 at half.
Â
In the second half, Raider senior
James Connor scored a beautiful header off a throw-in pass by sophomore
Colt Arnold. Overall, the Raiders outshot the Golden Falcons 31-8.
Â
In his first start, Shippensburg redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Matt Harder made one save in the shutout.
Â
Other Raiders who made their debut Thursday included freshmen
Devlin Mettee,
Joey Gallucci,
Marc Furfaro,
Patrick Luebben,
Jake Shefsky and
Cole Kropnick.
Â
Shippensburg will host East Stroudsburg on 1 p.m. Saturday at David See Field.
