SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team scored first, but could not hold on Saturday in a 2-1 overtime home loss to East Stroudsburg at David See Field.
Shippensburg (1-1, 0-1 PSAC) took the lead early in the second half when
James Connor curled a free kick from straight on into the bottom right corner of the net. However, the Raiders' lead was short-lived as East Stroudsburg scored less than five minutes later to equalize.
In a testy contest that featured five yellow cards, both teams struggled to create chances down the stretch in regulation. Unfortunately for Shippensburg, the Warriors went to work quickly in overtime and scored in the 94th minute of the match to seal the victory.
In the match, Shippensburg limited East Stroudsburg to just six shots on goal. The Raiders goalkeeper, redshirt-freshman
Matt Harder made four saves. Meanwhile, Shippensburg recorded 21 shots, with seven on goal. The distinct difference came in the corner kick department, where the Raiders had 11 to East Stroudsburg's three.
The Raiders will return to David See Field Wednesday for a home match against Holy Family, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
