Kennedy Joins 100-Goal Club, Barkley Gets 17 Draws; Lacrosse Drops Home Finale to Millersville, 20-13

SU gets hat tricks from Kennedy and Johnson; Barkley controls 14 draws in first half

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Courtney Kennedy became the 13th player in school history to achieve 100 career goals on Wednesday, and sophomore Max Barkley had an incredible single-game record of 17 draw controls, but the Shippensburg University lacrosse team dropped its home finale to Millersville, 20-13, on a cold and windy afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (3-13, 1-10 PSAC) got a goal from senior Sheila Johnson just 30 seconds in and the historic tally from Kennedy 3:34 into the game, giving the Raiders a 2-1 lead. SU was tied with Millersville (6-10, 3-8), 3-3, through the first eight minutes before the Marauders unleashed a torrent of 10 goals in a 20-minute span to build a large lead.

Kennedy and Johnson each finished with hat tricks and an assist. Johnson needs two goals in the season finale to move into fifth on SU's all-time scoring list (she has 128 career goals). Kennedy, meanwhile, now has four hat tricks in the last six games and is at 102 career goals.

SU held a lopsided 26-9 advantage in draw controls on the day. Barkley had a banner game for the Raiders, grabbing the first seven draws of the game and finishing the first half with an incredible 14 draw controls. She also tied a single-game career best with three caused turnovers, scored twice, and recorded three groundballs.

Sophomore Amanda Frank had a hand in seven of SU's goals, scoring twice and handing out five assists to tie a single-game season high. Sophomore T.J. Johnson and freshman Allison Fugate each added a goal.

Sophomore Annemarie Cericola, ranked among the Top 10 in the country in groundballs per game, had five groundballs and four draw controls, while fellow sophomore Ali Harclerode had a goal, a caused turnover, two draw controls and two groundballs.

Junior goalkeeper Ally Frymoyer was credited with four saves; freshman Helene Miller made two saves in relief.

Shippensburg will conclude its regular season at 11 a.m. Saturday with a road match at Mercyhurst.
