The Shippensburg University lacrosse team came up short in its PSAC opener on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 16-9 decision at Edinboro on a chilly day at Sox Harrison Stadium.

Shippensburg (2-4, 0-1 PSAC) could not overcome an early 6-0 deficit to Edinboro (4-0, 1-0), a team off to its best start in school history. SU trailed 10-2 at halftime and 12-3 with 25 minutes to play before scoring six of the next eight goals to get within 14-9 at the eight-minute mark.

The Raiders out-shot Edinboro and committed three fewer turnovers than the Fighting Scots, but the hosts made the most of the possession advantage and held a dominant 18-8 edge in draw controls.

Sheila Johnson notched a hat trick and had an assist to pace the Raiders in scoring. Johnson has scored 96 goals in 55 games – she is four goals shy of becoming the 13th player in school history to score 100 goals in a career.

The Fighting Scots got seven goals from Alexa Healy and eight assists from reigning PSAC Player of the Week Rebecca Martin. Goalkeeper Paige Skinner made 13 saves.
