Lacrosse Uses Strong Second-Half Effort to Rally and Defeat Chestnut Hill, 11-7

SU gets season-high 14 saves from Frymoyer, holding visitors scoreless for final 25:36

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team held visiting Chestnut Hill scoreless for the final 25:36 on Tuesday, netting the final six tallies to achieve a come-from-behind 11-7 victory over the Griffins on a windy afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-3) and Chestnut Hill (2-2) played within two goals during the first half, with the visitors scoring the first two goals of the game and never trailing until SU's decisive second-half run.

CHC took a 7-5 lead at that aforementioned 25:36 mark but could not dent the twine for the remainder of play, with SU junior goalkeeper Ally Frymoyer making 10 of her season-high 14 saves in the second half. Frymoyer achieved a career-best single-game save percentage of .667 in stopping two out of every three shots sent her way in the game.

The Raider defense was staunch all game long, but especially so in the second half. Freshman defender Makenzie Magnotta was active with a team-high three caused turnovers and five groundballs, while sophomore defender Annemarie Cericola had five groundballs, two caused turnovers and a full-field run off a turnover for a goal that kickstarted SU's 6-0 run to end the game.

Junior Brooke Olsen had a groundball and a draw control, while freshman Julia Wise had two groundballs and a caused turnover. Neither player committed a turnover, either, as SU's defense had five caused turnovers to just three committed turnovers and also drew several charge calls against Chestnut Hill forwards.

On attack, seniors Courtney Kennedy and Sheila Johnson each scored twice. Kennedy also had a nifty assist on a goal by senior Garrie Grenfell, SU's first of the game, and a caused turnover.

Sophomore Amanda Frank scored on a free-position shot and had two assists, totaling four groundballs and a caused turnover. Four other Raiders also had one goal, including a nifty individual effort in the first half by junior Tanisha Joseph and a strike by freshman Sarah McLeod tied the game at 7-7 in the second half.

Frank assisted on goals by sophomores Max Barkley and T.J. Johnson. Barkley had five of SU's draw controls.

Shippensburg is scheduled to travel to Edinboro on Saturday for the conference opener with the Fighting Scots.
