The Shippensburg University lacrosse team got its first win of the 2015 season Saturday, claiming a 20-7 victory over Rockhurst in a neutral-site contest hosted by Regis University in Denver, Col.
Shippensburg (1-3) had four players notch hat tricks – with senior
Courtney Kennedy recording three goals and three assists. Senior
Garrie Grenfell, sophomore
Amanda Frank and freshman
Sarah McLeod also had hat tricks, with Frank and McLeod also combining for five draw controls.
SU posted a significant advantage in shots and a 19-10 advantage in draw controls. Sophomore
Max Barkley had a team-high four draw controls.
Eight of SU's goals came on free-position attempts – with McLeod and sophomore
Ali Harclerode each scoring twice in such situations.
Senior
Sheila Johnson had two goals and two assists; freshman
Jordan Kengor scored twice and sophomore
Annemarie Cericola and junior
Tanisha Joseph also got a goal. Cericola had a team-high three caused turnovers.
Junior
Ally Frymoyer made five saves in 40 minutes before freshman
Helene Miller made her debut in goal. Miller made two saves in the final 20 minutes.
Shippensburg will host Chestnut Hill at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Robb Sports Complex.
