Lacrosse Drops Nailbiter With Shepherd on a Rainy Tuesday, 11-10

SU holds Rams scoreless for final 21 minutes but cannot complete comeback

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team nearly completed a second-half comeback on a rainy, cold Tuesday afternoon, but visiting Shepherd ultimately outlasted the Raiders, 11-10, at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (0-2) and Shepherd (1-1) were tied at halftime, 5-5, before the Rams scored six times in the first nine minutes of the second half to build an 11-6 advantage with 21:43 to play.

The Raiders held the Rams scoreless for the remainder of the game, but could not get the tying tally in the final two minutes as Shepherd goalkeeper Savannah Shores made two saves in the final 90 seconds.

Offensively, senior Sheila Johnson and sophomore Amanda Frank each scored hat tricks. Johnson added two groundballs, a draw control and a caused turnover to her stat line while Frank compiled four groundballs and an assist.

Sophomore center Max Barkley was excellent on the draw, winning nine draw controls – with her last coming in the final 90 seconds to set up SU's final scoring chance. Barkley also had an assist, two groundballs and a caused turnover.

Freshman defender Julia Wise led the team with five groundball pickups. Sophomore Annemarie Cericola was strong with four groundballs, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Sophomore Ali Harclerode and senior Courtney Kennedy each had a goal and an assist. Harclerode had three groundballs, and Kennedy had two caused turnovers. Senior Garrie Grenfell and sophomore T.J. Johnson also scored for the Raiders.

In goal, junior Ally Frymoyer made nine saves. Shores made seven saves for the Rams.

Shippensburg gets on a plane in the morning for Colorado, facing Regis on Thursday and Rockhurst on Saturday.
