Men’s Basketball Falls to Kutztown in PSAC First Round Game, 77-54

Dylan Edgar finishes with 14 points, 11 rebounds; SU improves 10 wins from last season

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior Dylan Edgar scored 14 points and totaled 11 rebounds as the No. 6-seeded Shippensburg University men's basketball team fell to No. 3-seeded Kutztown, 77-54, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Round game held inside Keystone Arena.

Shippensburg (13-14) was within three points of the lead with 2:16 remaining in the first half after Edgar connected on one of his signature baby-hook shots from the right side of the block to complete an 8-0 run.

Kutztown (18-11), however, closed the half on a 7-0 run to hold a 31-21 lead. The Golden Bears pulled away in the second half as they held the Raiders scoreless for 6:58 in the midst of a decisive 22-1 run.

Edgar finished with his league-leading 12th double-double while freshman Justin McCarthur totaled 10 points, four assists and four rebounds.

Perhaps the biggest difference was at the free-throw line. In the first half, the Golden Bears shot 13-of-15 (86.7 percent) while SU shot 2-of-4. Overall, Kutztown went 28-of-36 (77.8 percent) and Shippensburg shot 16-of-27 (59.3 percent) at the charity stripe.

Sophomore Abe Massaley had 10 points and was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line while freshman Dustin Sleva finished with five points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Senior Sam Pygatt made an appearance after missing the last 11 games due to injury and scored a basket on a reverse layup in three minutes of action.

Shippensburg finishes the season with 13 wins, improving its win total by 10 from a season ago. The 13 wins are more than the last two seasons combined and the most since the 2006-07 campaign.
