SHIP 2015 MGSHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg University football team will conclude the 2015 regular season on Saturday as it plays host to the Mercyhurst Lakers in a mandated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover contest. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
from SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium. Shippensburg's eight senior players will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony. At halftime, the SU Foundation's Tuition Raffle will take place, along with recognition of SU athletic teams who received academic awards. Senior ceremonies will also be held for the SU cheerleaders and the Red Raider Marching Band.
The Red Raiders finished in fourth place in the Eastern Division standings. Shippensburg tied for second place with Bloomsburg and Kutztown with a 5-2 divisional record, but Bloomsburg held a 2-0 record against the two teams, while KU was 1-1 and SU was 0-2.
The Lakers finished sixth in the PSAC Western Division standings this season, with their only divisional wins coming against Seton Hill and Edinboro. Mercyhurst, however, defeated both Bloomsburg and West Chester in crossover contests earlier this season.

Last Week• Shippensburg had its five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday, as the Red Raiders never got going in a 51-27 loss at Kutztown that ended the team's hopes of winning the Eastern Division and the right at hosting the PSAC State Game. SU was tied 14-14 with Kutztown midway through the second quarter before the Golden Bears scored 23 consecutive points to tilt the balance in their favor.
• Mercyhurst traveled to California and could not overcome a 17-0 halftime deficit, falling 31-21 to the Vulcans. The Lakers used two quarterbacks (Zack Emerick and Logan Weaver) who combined for 239 yards, two fourth-quarter touchdowns and one interception. Brandon Brown-Dukes ran for 116 yards. The game featured just eight drives for each team.
Series History: Red Raiders vs. Lakers• This weekend marks the fourth career matchup between Shippensburg and Mercyhurst. Every meeting has occurred in the final week of the regular season, and every game has been tied at halftime.
• Last season, Mercyhurst capped off a seven-game winning streak to end the year by defeating the Red Raiders in Erie, 42-21. The game was tied 14-14 at halftime, but the Lakers exploded for three scores in the third quarter, including a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown, to take control.
• In 2011, Shippensburg capped off a 7-4 campaign with a 40-16 victory over Mercyhurst at Seth Grove Stadium, scoring 27 points in the second half of a game that was tied 13-13.
• In 2008, Mercyhurst recorded a 21-17 victory over Shippensburg at Tullio Field; the score was 14-14 at halftime. SU was driving for the go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter before turning the ball over on downs with 43 seconds left.
Consistent Winner• The Week 8 win over Cheyney was the sixth of the year for the Red Raiders, guaranteeing a winning season. It is the fifth consecutive winning season for the Red Raiders under head coach Mark 'Mac' Maciejewski '92/'96M.
• After the Week 9 win over Millersville, SU clinched its fourth seven-plus win season under Maciejewski. Coach Mac is just the third coach in SU history with four or more seven-plus win seasons. Vinton Rambo (1947-1954) also had four seasons with seven plus wins. Rocky Rees (1990-2010) had seven seasons with seven or more wins.
• Maciejewski is currently ranked fifth all-time in SU history with 38 career victories.
• This current stretch is the first time SU has had five straight winning seasons since 1974-78 under coaches Gene Epley (1974-75) and Joe Mark (1976-78). Maciejewski is the just the second coach in school history to begin his SU tenure with five straight winning seasons and the first since legendary SU Hall of Famer Ed Gulian did so from 1934-38.
Schaetzle's SHIP Ties• Mercyhurst head coach Marty Schaetzle spent seven seasons as an offensive line coach and coordinator at Shippensburg from 1990-96 under longtime Red Raider head coach Rocky Rees. Schaetzle was on staff for current SU head coach
Mark Maciejewski's final three seasons as a Red Raider (1990-92), and the two later worked together on the SU coaching staff when Maciejewski was a GA coach from 1995-96.
