Harris leads SU with 10 kills; Amoriello and Whitacre each serve five aces

The Shippensburg University volleyball team had six different players contribute four or more kills in a straight-set road victory Friday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest at Cheyney, 3-0, inside Cope Hall. Set scores were 25-14, 25-23 and 25-11.

Shippensburg (24-8, 13-6 PSAC) got a season-high 10 kills and a .429 hitting efficiency from sophomore Cristen Harris, who saw her most extensive court time of the year. Freshman Katie Lemheney had five kills, two digs and hit .374.

Sophomores Catherine Amoriello and Brittany Whitacre each served five aces. Amoriello was SU's primary setter for the evening, totaling 28 assists and a team-high eight digs to complement her serve. Whitacre had five kills, four digs and hit .300.

Sophomore Shelby Henry had five kills and four digs, while junior Rebecca Pryor had four kills without an error and swung .500. Freshman Keara O'Brien-Pol had four kills and two block assists.

SU had 16 attack errors and nine service errors on the evening. Cheyney (2-25, 0-18) trailed 23-18 in the second set but rallied for five straight points to tie the score at 23-23 before the Raiders got a kill from Harris and a solo block from freshman Jenna Hevner to escape the set.

The Wolves had 19 kills on the night – 10 off the hands of Alaiya Cave. She hit .296.

Shippensburg is at West Chester tomorrow for a 1 p.m. contest inside Hollinger Fieldhouse. SU is currently two games ahead of the Golden Rams for the second place in the division, but the Raiders lost an earlier-season meeting in straight sets.
