Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | By Bill Morgal, Sports Information Director

Dylan Edgar Surpasses 1,000-Point Plateau, but Men’s Basketball Falls to Kutztown, 88-75

SU senior scores 20 points, has now recorded 1,008 points in 93 career games

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior Dylan Edgar surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career Wednesday night but the Shippensburg University men's basketball team could not stave off home-standing Kutztown, dropping a 88-75 decision to the Golden Bears inside Keystone Arena.

Shippensburg (8-7, 4-7 PSAC) relinquished a run late in the first half to trail by 11 points at halftime, 43-32. The Raiders would cut the deficit to seven points with 8:41 to go but not get any closer down the stretch.

Edgar finished with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, bringing his career total to 1,008 points in 93 career games. He also had seven rebounds. His jumper with 15:45 remaining made him the first 1,000-point player to reach the mark solely in a Raider uniform since Todd Johnson in 2007. Alex Jones is the last SU player to surpass 1,000 points – he did so in 2008 and reached his total with two seasons as a Raider and two with Ashland.

Overall, Edgar is the 28th SU men's player to reach 1,000 career points.

Freshman Justin McCarthur led all players Wednesday night with 21 points, making three three-pointers and going 6-of-6 at the free-throw line. He had three rebounds and an assist.

Sophomore Abe Massaley had a well-rounded game before fouling out late, scoring 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. He matched his career high with nine rebounds, had four assists and two steals in 34 minutes.

Freshman Dustin Sleva had six points, four rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Sleva is averaging eight points, five rebounds and four assists over his last three games.

Kutztown (11-7, 8-4) had five players in double figures and scored more points against the Raiders on Wednesday than any team thus far. The Golden Bears also shot 18-of-20 at the free-throw line and committed just seven turnovers on the night.

Shippensburg hosts Millersville at 3 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House.
