Volleyball Falls in Four Sets in PSAC East Match at West Chester

SU takes opening set versus Golden Rams but ultimately comes up short while Nolan records 30 assists and seven kills

The Shippensburg University volleyball team took the opening set on the road Saturday but ultimately dropped a four-set decision at West Chester. Set scores against the Golden Rams were 25-19, 23-25, 17-25, 18-25.
 
Shippensburg (7-8, 1-5 PSAC East) nearly took a two-set lead, as it earned a 22-20 advantage in the second set, but the Golden Rams rallied to win three straight points and ultimately the frame, 25-23.
 
Freshman Courtney Malott led the Raiders with a career-high 13 kills.
 
The Raiders did have success at the net tallying 10 blocks compared to West Chester's eight. Junior Faith Athey, junior Taylor Gottshall and sophomore Rebecca Pryor each recorded four block assists while Gottshall added one solo block.
 
Pryor's four block assists set a new season high and ties a career high.
 
West Chester (9-6, 1-5) was led by Marina Sharkey, who notched 18 kills. The Golden Rams recorded a .292 attack percentage.
 
Shippensburg sophomore Maura Nolan recorded 30 assists and seven kills.
 
Sophomore Annie Goerl contributed 11 digs for the Raiders.
 
Shippensburg will be back on the court when they take on Millersville at 7 p.m. on Tuesday from Heiges Field House.
