Junior left fielder Cody Ezolt went a combined 5-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored on Sunday afternoon but the No. 11 Shippensburg University baseball team dropped both ends of its road PSAC East doubleheader at Kutztown to split the weekend series 2-2. The Raiders lost Game 1 in walk-off fashion, 4-3, before dropping Game 2, 14-8.

After an Ezolt one-run single in the second and a solo home run from junior second baseman Jimmy Spanos and an RBI single by freshman catcher Jake Kennedy in the fourth, Shippensburg (21-8, 9-5 PSAC East) carried a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of the opener. Kutztown (16-10, 4-7) completed the comeback, however, with three runs on three hits and two SU errors and won the game on an RBI single to right-center with one out.

Sophomore Marcus Shippey pitched into the seventh and gave up just one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts. He suffered the loss.

The Golden Bears brought their hot bats right into the nightcap as well, exploding for 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning on seven hits, three walks and three hit batters.

Shippensburg managed to score eight runs on 10 hits to cut the final deficit in half, beginning in the top of the second with a two-run double courtesy of junior right fielder Austin Allison, who later scored on an RBI single by senior third baseman Cal Hogan.

Ezolt his his fifth home run of the season in the fourth before SU tacked on three more in the fifth with an RBI groundout from sophomore shortstop Mike Marcinko and an RBI single from senior first baseman Pat Kregeloh, who scored on a throwing error following an Ezolt double down the left-field line.

Spanos, who drove in SU's final run in the seventh with a double down the left-field line, joined Kregeloh and Hogan as the only other Raiders with multiple hits on the day. Kregeloh scored three runs while Spanos and Hogan each drove in two.

Shippensburg travels to PSAC West newcomer Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
