Rich Michaud debuted with a complete game in Saturday's opener and senior
Pat Kregeloh threw a four-hit shutout and homered in the nightcap as the No. 11 Shippensburg University baseball team swept PSAC East rival Kutztown, 10-1 and 3-0, on Alumni Day at Fairchild Field.
On the day, Shippensburg (21-6, 9-3 PSAC East) outscored Kutztown (15-10, 3-7), 13-1, and slugged seven extra-base hits compared to KU's two.
Michaud made his 2014 debut in the opener and tossed a complete game, giving up a lone run on seven hits for his first career complete game in just his fifth career start. Senior
Michael Douglas recorded a double and a triple while junior
Cody Ezolt swatted a double and a solo home run while scoring three runs. On the day, Ezolt finished 3-for-6 with two doubles, a home run and four runs scored.
A five-run sixth inning from the Raiders in Game 1 secured the victory and included a bases-loaded double down the left field line from freshman
Jake Kennedy that scored two runs and a single to center field from junior
Austin Allison that plated Ezolt.
Kregeloh shined in Game 2 with his complete-game shutout and a 2-for-3 performance at the dish, which included a home run and two runs scored. It is the first career shutout and ninth career complete game for Kregeloh, who made his 27th career start with the Raiders on Saturday. He also moved into fourth on SU's all-time list with his 23rd career round tripper.
The Raiders stole six bases on the day, including five in game one. Kennedy and sophomore
Mike Marcinko each stole two bases and Allison added one while freshman
Vince Careghini stole the first base of his collegiate career in Game 2.
At the plate, Kennedy finished the day 2-for-5 with three RBIs, a double, a walk and a run scored. Senior third basemen
Cal Hogan returned to the lineup after battling an illness and contributed two hits in six at-bats with one RBI.
With its first doubleheader sweep of the Golden Bears since 2010, SU takes sole possession of first place in the PSAC East and will travel to Kutztown tomorrow for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at North Campus Field.
