The Shippensburg University lacrosse team scored first and limited No. 8 Lock Haven to just one goal during the first 10 minutes of play on Saturday afternoon but was unable to keep pace as it dropped a 16-4 decision from Charlotte E. Smith Field.
Shippensburg (7-8, 4-6 PSAC) senior
Bennett Widlake netted the game's first goal at the 26:18 mark off a pass from junior
Sheila Johnson. After giving up the initial goal, Lock Haven (13-2, 9-1) responded by scoring 14 straight and held a 10-1 halftime advantage.
The Raiders were limited offensively until the 14:19 mark of the second half when sophomore
Tanisha Joseph buried a shot into the back of the net, capitalizing on Johnson's second helper of the game. Joseph also notched an assist to record the first multi-point game of her career.
Johnson finished the game with one goal and two assists on six shots while freshman Jaimie Hills scored her second goal of the season.
Senior
Amanda Krok recorded two caused turnovers, two draw controls and two ground ball pickups while freshman
Amanda Frank scored one goal and controlled two draws.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Ally Frymoyer turned away 10 shots, her second-highest save total in a game this season (career-high 17 saves at No. 3 Limestone on March 17).
Widlake has reached the 30-goal benchmark on the season for the second time in her career. She scored a career-best 33 goals in 2012.
SU travels to Millersville on Wednesday to take on the Marauders at 4 p.m. from Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium before returning home for Senior Day on April 26 at 1 p.m. against No. 12 Mercyhurst.
