The Shippensburg University lacrosse team scored twice in the first six minutes on Tuesday afternoon at PSAC heavyweight West Chester but couldn't keep up with the defending conference champions in a 20-5 loss from Vonnie Gros Field.
Shippensburg (7-6, 4-4 PSAC) held an early 2-1 lead after goals from freshman
Annemarie Cericola and junior
Courtney Kennedy. West Chester (8-4, 5-4) – ranked nationally as recently as last week – then scored 10 consecutive and took a 12-3 lead into halftime.
Junior
Sheila Johnson scored twice while senior
Ashley Pope also added a goal and assisted on Johnson's second score. Cericola and freshman
Max Barkley each collected a team-high three draw controls.
Senior
Amanda Krok recorded team highs of four ground ball pickups and two caused turnovers while also adding a pair of draw controls and assisting on Pope's second-half goal.
Sophomore
Ally Frymoyer made eight saves in net.
SU continues its road stint this weekend with games at No. 7 IUP (Friday at 3 p.m.) and No. 8 Lock Haven (Saturday at 4 p.m.).
