SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – A save at the buzzer by sophomore
Ally Frymoyer ensured an 11-10 victory for the Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team Saturday over Edinboro in the conference opener for both teams at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (4-2, 1-0 PSAC) and Edinboro (3-1, 0-1 PSAC) were tied 9-9 with less than 11 minutes to play until the Raiders got a goal from senior
Kayla Dalzell at 10:23 and another by senior
Ashley Pope with 5:59 remaining to go up by two.
The Fighting Scots got within one goal at 2:01 off a tally by Alexa Healy, who then won the ensuing draw control. EU eventually pulled its goalie after establishing possession in the offensive zone. After an exchange of turnovers, Edinboro possessed the ball for the final minute but did not manage a shot attempt before senior
Bennett Widlake swiped the ball with six seconds to go.
As Widlake ran up field, however, she had the ball knocked loose by Samantha Tomasic of Edinboro. Tomasic quickly passed it to Healy, who fired a shot on goal from a few feet outside the scoring arc that was stopped by Frymoyer as the final horn sounded.
Shippensburg had built a 7-2 lead with a little more than six minutes remaining in the opening half before the Fighting Scots scored four times in advance of the intermission. SU did not stretch its lead greater than two goals in the second half but never trailed, as the score was only deadlocked with Healy's first goal at 13:14 that made it 9-9.Â
