A career-high five goals from junior Sheila Johnson all in the second half on Wednesday afternoon were far from enough for the Shippensburg University lacrosse team as it dropped a 20-5 road decision at No. 12 Pfeiffer from the Matthews SportsPlex in Matthews, N.C., to close out its non-conference schedule and three-game spring-break road trip.

Johnson led all players in scoring and accounted for all of the Shippensburg (3-2) goals, giving her a team-high 13 through five games this season. Junior Courtney Kennedy, senior Ashley Pope and freshman Amanda Frank each tallied assists.

SU responded to an 11-0 halftime deficit and remained at pace with Pfeiffer (6-2) throughout the majority of the second half as it trailed 17-5 with just over five minutes remaining.

The Raiders recorded a season-high 16 caused turnovers and won the turnover battle by a 23-17 margin. Shippensburg, however, converted just two of its six free-position shots while Pfeiffer shot 7-for-8.

Senior Liz French picked up a team-high five groundballs while freshman Max Barkley led SU with three draw controls. Johnson tied for the game high with seven shots while Kennedy took five and junior Garrie Grenfell took four.

The Raiders open PSAC play at home this Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against Edinboro from Robb Sports Complex.
