SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – A pair of RBI singles from seniors Pat Kregeloh and Michael Douglas in the first and second innings were all the No. 22 Shippensburg University baseball team needed vs. Le Moyne in its home opener on Friday afternoon as sophomore Marcus Shippey threw a one-hitter in a nine-inning complete game effort for a 2-0 victory from Fairchild Field.

Shippey was dominant for the Raiders (8-3) with an over 120-pitch performance and allowed just three Le Moyne (5-9) base-runners on the day – an infield single to shortstop in the second inning and a nine-pitch walk in the fourth, after which Shippey retired the final 15 batters of the game.

The one hit is the fewest allowed in a complete game for an SU pitcher since Tim Freshour threw a home no-hitter vs. Lock Haven in a seven-inning game on March 21, 2009.

Shippey was aided on Friday by a stellar effort from the Raider defense behind him, including several standout plays at shortstop from sophomore Mike Marcinko and at third base from senior Cal Hogan.

Douglas continued his hot play from last weekend, going 4-for-4 from his spot atop the order with a stolen base and a run scored. Over the last four games, Douglas is 11-for-15 at the plate, good for a .733 batting average.

The center fielder got things started in the first inning with a leadoff single up the middle before advancing to third on a pair of wild pitches. With two outs, first baseman Kregeloh singled through the left side to score Douglas and put SU up 1-0.

Douglas drove in the game's second run in the next frame with a single to right field that scored freshman catcher Jake Kennedy (Thorndale/Coatesville).

Kregeloh went 3-for-4 on the day while Hogan, junior second baseman Jimmy Spanos, junior left fielder Cody Ezolt and junior right fielder Austin Allison each collected a hit.

The Raiders and Dolphins will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. from Fairchild Field. Sunday's nine-inning single game against Le Moyne will begin at 1 p.m. as well (previously scheduled for noon).
