SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team had all 11 of its players in Tuesday night's game score at least four points and dished out 27 assists as a unit in a 101-51 victory over Penn State University – Lehigh Valley in a non-league tilt at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (4-1) scored 56 points in the paint and got 44 points from its bench players. The Raiders also posted a 54-29 rebounding advantage and did not allow a point off a turnover in the game.
Freshman guard
Clay Conner led all players with 19 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Conner's work from the point included five assists, a pair of three-pointers and a 9-of-10 effort at the free-throw line. He also had two rebounds and two steals.
Senior
Dylan Edgar manhandled the under-sized Lions and went 9-of-9 from the field, totaling 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks in just 17 minutes and drew a charge call in the paint for good measure. Through five games this season, Edgar is shooting 77.6 percent (38-of-49) from the field.
Freshman guard
Justin McCarthur was even more prolific, contributing 18 points in just 15 minutes of play. He drained three 3-pointers on three attempts within the first three minutes of play. Overall, McCarthur was 6-of-9 from the field with two free throws, two rebounds and two assists.
Junior
Tony Ellis played a strong 20 minutes, providing eight points, a team-high nine rebounds and three assists. Sophomore
Abe Massaley had six points and seven assists while freshman
Dustin Sleva had seven points, six rebounds and two steals in just 15 minutes of play.
Senior
Sam Pygatt had eight points on 4-of-6 shooting with six rebounds, while junior
Jay Hardy had five points, four rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Sophomore
Keelan Adams, freshman
Trent Bauer and junior
A.J. Maun each finished with four points and four rebounds. Maun and Bauer each blocked two shots, as the Raiders totaled 12 blocks on the night.
Penn State Lehigh Valley (2-4) arrived 10 minutes after the scheduled 7 p.m. tip because of pre-Thanksgiving traffic clogging the local highways, forcing the game to start at 7:45 p.m. The Lions were led in scoring by Joe Wiggins, who scored 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting.
Shippensburg returns to action Wednesday, December 3 when it hosts East Stroudsburg at 8 p.m. in a PSAC contest at Heiges Field House.
