Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match at PSAC East Rival Kutztown, 3-1

SU clings to playoff spot entering final weekend of regular season

The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped a four-set match at PSAC East rival Kutztown on Saturday afternoon, winning the opening frame before losing the final three. Set scores were 25-14, 23-25, 17-25 and 19-25.

Shippensburg (15-15, 8-12 PSAC) swung .184 in the first set but committed 21 errors over the final three sets, while Kutztown (13-15, 7-13) overcame a zero hitting percentage in the opening frame with 14 kills in each of the final three frames.

Junior Taylor Gottshall was the only Raider with double-digit kills on the day, totaling 12 while hitting .308. She added six digs and five blocks to her day.

Sophomore Annie Goerl led the team with 20 digs, while juniors Casey Hawbaker and Laura Plank each had 16 digs.

Sophomore setter Maura Nolan had 32 assists with four kills. Junior Faith Athey and freshman Courtney Malott both contributed eight kills.

With two conference games remaining, the Raiders are clinging to the third spot in the Eastern Division standings. SU is tied with West Chester for third place but holds the tiebreaker. However, Kutztown and Millersville are just one game behind both teams. KU holds the tiebreaker over the Raiders.

SU begins the final week of the regular season on Tuesday when it hosts Point Park at 7 p.m. in a non-conference contest from Heiges Field House.
