The Shippensburg University women's soccer team yielded multiple goals in a match for just the second time this season and fell on the road Wednesday at Lock Haven, dropping a 2-1 conference matchup to the Bald Eagles from Hubert Jack Stadium.
Shippensburg (3-7-3, 3-7-3 PSAC) yielded just four shots to Lock Haven (3-11-1, 3-10-1) and posted a 6-1 advantage in penalty kicks, but the host Lady Eagles made the most of their opportunities.
SU fell behind in the 16th minute after committing a handball in the box. Haven's Jamie Hunter converted the penalty kick for her fourth goal of the year.
Seven minutes later, junior
Caitlin Sheehan pounced on a rebound off a free kick by junior
Brianna Brancato, scoring her first goal of the year.
Haven's game winner came in the 60th minute of play when Taylor Ludlam collected a long rebound and sent a half-volley from beyond 20 yards out that went past freshman keeper
Kayla Kennedy.
SU tilted the field in the final 10 minutes and had several scoring chances, with the best being a shot by senior
Brooke Clippinger in the 83rd minute that just missed the far post from about 15 yards out.
Shippensburg hosts Bloomsburg at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day at David See Field. The team will recognize Clippinger,
Alyssa House,
Mackenzie Neal and
Carolyn Smith in pre-game ceremonies.
