Women’s Soccer Suffers Overtime Loss to No. 6 East Stroudsburg, 1-0

Raiders limit ESU to four shots on goal, allow lone goal in 99th minute

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team suffered its second consecutive 1-0 loss to a nationally-ranked opponent Saturday after allowing a goal in the 99th minute in a hard-fought contest to No. 6 East Stroudsburg from Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Raiders (3-6-3, 3-6-3 PSAC), coming off a heart-breaking loss in a 1-0 decision to WCU last Tuesday, were able to limit the Warriors offensively on the day as they only allowed four shots on goal. Overall, ESU held a 14-5 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corners.

The SU defense has allowed more than one goal in a match just once this season and it came in its season opener against then No. 12-ranked California. For the season, the Raiders have allowed 0.94 goals per game, good for sixth in the PSAC entering the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy made three saves on the day as she entered the match ranked second in the conference in goals-against average.

SU returns to action Wednesday when they travel to Lock Haven to take on the Bald Eagles from Hubert Jack Stadium.
