The Shippensburg University volleyball team split a pair of tightly contested five-set decisions in a PSAC crossover on Friday with a victory over Edinboro (26-24, 15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-17), before falling to Mercyhurst (24-26, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 14-16) from McComb Fieldhouse on the campus of Edinboro University.

In the morning match, the Raiders (10-10, 4-7 PSAC) battled Edinboro to five sets for the fourth consecutive meeting and trailed 10-4 in the fifth set before rallying to take the set, 17-15, and the match, 3-2.

Annie Goerl set a career high with 16 kills while hitting .277 and adding nine digs.

Faith Athey hit .348 and collected 12 kills while junior
Laura Plank tallied 20 digs and two service aces.

Taylor Gottshall collected eight total blocks, five kills and eight digs as sophomore
Maura Nolan contributed 38 assists and 16 digs.

The Raiders dropped the nightcap to Mercyhurst, 3-2, in match that had four out of five sets decided by two points.

Courtney Malott earned her first career double-double with a career-high 17 kills and 11 digs.

Goerl and Athey added 11 and 10 kills respectively to their total on the day while Nolan added 45 assists and 16 digs.

SU was strong on the block all day, totaling 22 between the two matches (13 in the nightcap).

The Raiders are back in action Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against PSAC Crossover host Slippery Rock, before facing off with Gannon at 3:30 p.m.
