SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swimming team honored seniors
Chris Bankert and
Joey Borgioni on Senior Day Saturday as the Raiders closed their final home meet of the season with a flourish to defeat Davis & Elkins, 135-126 from Donald N. Miller Pool.
Shippensburg trailed Davis & Elkins with three events remaining but finished 1-2-3 in the 100-yard butterfly, led by freshman
Braxton Erne in 55.07 seconds. Borgioni took second in 56.26 seconds.
Both Bankert and Borgioni swam on the opening 400-yard medley relay squad that emerged victorious in 3:45.28. The duo were joined on the relay by sophomore
Jake Dunnigan and junior
R.J. Phiambolis.
Dunnigan won two events on Saturday, taking the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.99 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.98. Other Raider winners included freshman
Tyler Clisham in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:38.11), sophomore
Stefan Szilagyi in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.52) and sophomore
Jordan Metz in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.17).
Metz's win in the 200 IM furthered SU's lead and was also critical as the visiting Senators won the 200-yard freestyle relay to conclude the match.
Shippensburg will compete next weekend at Navy as it continues to prepare for the 2014 PSAC Championships, to be held February 14-17 in York.
