Box Score

The Shippensburg University baseball team collected 15 hits and 11 RBIs on Tuesday afternoon in a dominant 11-0 road shutout at PSAC West opponent Indiana (Pa.) in nine innings from the Crimson Hawks' Dougherty Field.

Six different Raiders (26-18) drove in runs with all but one player in the starting lineup collecting a hit. SU scored runs in five of the first seven innings while five Raider pitchers combined for the nine-inning shutout.

Junior Shawn Patterson earned the start and went three innings while allowing three Crimson Hawks (25-21) on base – all on singles – and not allowing any of the three to advance. The right-hander retired the side in the third and fourth and pushed his record to 5-3 on the season.

Sophomore Nick Massetti threw three innings of shutout ball with two hits before a trio of freshman closed out the game pitching one inning each and combining for five strikeouts: Rich Michaud, Kyle McClintock and Marcus Shippey.

Junior center fielder Michael Douglas went 4-for-6 at the top of the lineup with three RBIs while sophomore second baseman Jimmy Spanos batted 3-for-5 with two runs driven in.

Senior catcher Tyler Shover and junior first baseman Pat Kregeloh each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

SU got off to a quick start with two runs in the first thanks to RBI singles from Shover and senior left fielder Simon Beloff.

Shippensburg took advantage with its top of the order due up in the third. Douglas reached on an infield single and junior third baseman Cal Hogan drew a walk. Both runners would later score on a Kregeloh two-run single to left-center. Senior Cody Kulp then brought Kregeloh home with an RBI triple to left-center.

A Shover infield single drove in junior designated hitter Dan Wimer in the fourth to put SU up 6-0. Douglas then knocked in two more runs in the sixth with a single up the middle.

Beloff and Kulp reached to lead off the seventh to set up a Spanos bases-clearing double to left-center. Spanos advanced to third on a groundout before coming home on a Douglas RBI double to left-center.

The Raiders finish up their regular season this weekend with their PSAC East finale against Mansfield. The Mountaineers will host Friday's doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. before the series shifts to Fairchild Field on Saturday for a 1 p.m. twinbill.

Shippensburg is currently tied with West Chester for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PSAC East with each team boasting identical 9-11 divisional records. The Golden Rams finish their season against Kutztown, which currently holds the East No. 2 seed with a 14-6 divisional mark. At 5-15, Mansfield currently sits at the bottom of the PSAC East.

The Raiders hold the tiebreaker over both West Chester and current East No. 3 seed East Stroudsburg (11-9) if SU were to finish next weekend tied with either team in the divisional standings.
