EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 12 Shippensburg University baseball team rode another solid pitching performance from senior Tom Bush in Friday afternoon's opening 6-2 victory before dropping the nightcap, 7-0, to split a road doubleheader at East Stroudsburg on the opening weekend of PSAC East competition from the Warriors' Mitterling Field.

Bush improved his record to 4-0 with his second complete game of the season. The right-hander gave up two runs on six hits while striking out six.

Senior catcher Tyler Shover paced the Raiders (14-5, 1-1 PSAC) offensively with a 3-for-4 effort in Game 1 – including two doubles – to go along with two RBIs and a run scored.

Junior Pat Kregeloh absorbed the loss in Game 2 while pitching into the fifth inning and giving up four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Junior Austin Bartley finished the fifth and senior David McKolosky pitched the sixth inning.

Shippensburg will host ESU at 1 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader from Fairchild Field.

Game 1: Shippensburg 6, East Stroudsburg 2

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out double by Shover that scored freshman shortstop Mike Marcinko, but ESU answered with two runs in the bottom of the third on a two-out blooper by left fielder Eric Boyer.

The decisive inning was the fourth, as the Raiders plated five in the frame – including three with two outs. One-out singles by sophomore second baseman Jimmy Spanos and junior designated hitter Dan Wimer prefaced a bunt by junior third baseman Cal Hogan. The Warriors tried for the out at home on the play but Spanos was safe after a collision with ESU catcher Nico Delerme. Junior outfielder Michael Douglas then singled home Wimer to put the Raiders back on top, 3-2.

Hogan was thrown out trying to steal third base for the second out, but despite the miscue, the Raiders continued a sequence of five straight hitters who reached base – Marcinko on an infield single, Shover on an RBI-single, Kregeloh on a walk and Kulp on a two-run single for the 6-2 Raider lead.

ESU attempted a rally in the bottom of the sixth with a single and a walk putting runners on first and second with one out. Warrior catcher Eric Forth then roped a ball to centerfield that was caught by a diving Douglas, who then picked off the base runner resorting back to first on an inning-ending 8-4-3 play. Bush then retired the side in the seventh to finish off the victory.

Game 2: East Stroudsburg 7, Shippensburg 0

The Raider offense struggled to muster much of anything off of Warrior pitcher Ryan Lubreski, who gave up just four hits and struck out five in a complete-game shutout.

With the game scoreless through three innings, East Stroudsburg did its damage in the middle innings, tacking on two runs off four hits in the fourth inning and adding three runs off four more hits in the fifth.

Shippensburg left the bases loaded in the first and left two more on in the fifth, with the missed opportunities proving crucial as Lubreski continued to deal. ESU added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Boyer, who went 6-for-6 on the day with four RBIs and a walk.
