SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swimming team returned to competition on Friday night inside Donald N. Miller Pool but came up short in a dual meet against Fairmont State, dropping a 109-91 decision to the Fighting Falcons.
Two Raider swimmers earned event victories on Friday night, as sophomore
Jake Dunnigan won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.31 and sophomore
Stefan Szilagyi was the pace-setter in the 100-yard butterfly after finishing in 53.70 seconds. Dunnigan also placed second in the 200-yard IM, while freshman
Shaun Smith finished second in the 100-yard fly behind Szilagyi.
Freshman
Elijah Goldman had two hard-fought performances in freestyle swims, taking second in the 200 (1:49.86) and finishing within .03 seconds of the victory in the 500 (4:56.04).
Junior
Tyler Robertson was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.03 seconds and senior
Joey Borgioni placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:03.07.
In relay competition, the quartet of Robertson, Dunnigan, Szilagyi and Goldman placed second in the 400 medley with a time of 3:43.26. The 400 freestyle relay featured Robertson, Smith, junior
Jeff Mikitka and sophomore
Jordan Metz and also placed second.
Shippensburg will host IUP at 1 p.m. Saturday.
