NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Shippensburg University baseball team got three hits on Tuesday from junior
Simon Beloff and
Steve Sulcoski and three RBIs from junior
Tyler Basso in winning its fifth straight game, an 8-2 victory in nine innings over Wilmington (Del.).
Shippensburg (19-11) scored all eight of its runs with two outs – including four with base runners that did not get on until two outs were already recorded in the respective inning.
Wilmington (12-10) and the Raiders played to a 1-1 score through the first five innings. SU's only run in that span was a second-inning sacrifice fly by Basso that scored Sulcoski.
The Raiders broke through with three runs in the top of the sixth and led 4-2 at the completion of the frame. With two outs, SU added to a single with another single and a walk. Senior
Jimmy Miller gave the Raiders the lead by drawing a bases-loaded walk. Basso then singled home Sulcoski and freshman
Cody Ezolt.
SU added three more runs in the seventh to take control – all coming after a lineout and groundout started the frame. Beloff launched a home run, Sulcoski doubled home sophomore

Kyle Hollingsworth delivered a pinch-hit RBI single.
Junior
Cody Kulp contributed a RBI-single in the eighth inning to round out the scoring.

Josh Scott earned the win with four innings of relief, allowing one earned run and six hits while striking out three. Sophomore
Shawn Patterson started the game and went three innings, yielding one run on two hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Kody Kibler closed out the contest in by working the ninth.
Shippensburg will now prepare for its four-game PSAC Eastern Division series this weekend with Bloomsburg. SU will travel on Friday to face the Huskies before hosting BU on Saturday. Both doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m.
